Ledger Live Desktop is the companion application for managing supported crypto assets with a Ledger hardware wallet. It brings portfolio information and wallet actions into one interface, while your hardware wallet remains central to approving transactions. Think of the application as a window onto your accounts—not a replacement for the device that protects access to them.
For a first-time user, a calm setup begins with a simple rule: use only the official download and follow the instructions shown in the application and on your device. 02 — FIRST STEPS
Set up with care, one step at a time.
Begin at Ledger’s official Getting started page. Confirm that you have the genuine hardware wallet and its supplied cable, then download the application from a Ledger-owned destination. Avoid sponsored search results, unsolicited messages, and download links shared in direct messages. A familiar-looking page is not proof that a link is safe.
After installation, open the desktop app and connect your device. Follow the on-screen onboarding steps, taking time to check that any action requesting confirmation matches what you see on the device. If you already have a wallet, use the appropriate restore or connect flow presented by Ledger’s instructions; never type a recovery phrase into a website, chat, or computer prompt. A recovery phrase is a master key, not a password-reset tool.

03 — SECURITY BASICS
Good habits are part of the setup.
Once connected, Ledger Live can help you view accounts and use supported features. Availability differs by asset, region, and service, so consult current in-app details rather than assuming every coin or function behaves the same way. Balance information shown on a screen is useful, but the device is where you should independently review and approve transaction details.
Keep the desktop operating system and Ledger Live updated through trusted channels. Treat unexpected “urgent” security warnings, giveaway offers, and requests to validate a wallet with suspicion. Ledger support will never ask for your recovery phrase. If a message asks for it, stop; do not reply or follow its link.
